Historic town on the Lennon (& Gateway to Fanad Peninsula)
Ramelton
was once the most important port in the region, with goods and passengers
moving to
and from all parts of the world. This importance can be seen from the many
impressive buildings in the town. The river Lennon runs through the town and boasts the first salmon caught in 2003.
The visitor is well served with bars, restaurants and a wine bar and the town has an excellent multi-media exhibition in the Ancestry Centre, located at the in one of the old stores visible below.
In addition to being an ideal base to explore Fanad, Rosguill and the Derryveagh mountains, Ramelton is a charming and picturesque place to visit.
There are several B&Bs for those wishing to stay over in the town, including Meadowell House (left), just a few minutes walk from the Mall.
Although just a short walk to the centre of town, Meadow Well House is just a short walk to the resevoir lake below, and serves as an ideal starting point for walks past a waterfall and into the woods.
